Job Description Overview The Credentialing and Privileging Specialist under the guidance of the Director of the Medical Staff facilitates all aspects of credentialing and privileging of physicians and allied healthcare providers including initial appointment reappointment and modification requests in accordance with the Joint Commission accreditation standards state and federal requirements and medical staff and hospital policies.
Maintains and quality controls the medical staff database and privilege delineations.
Coordinates the orientation proctoring (FPPE) and on-going evaluations (OPPE) of all privileged providers.
Maintains the call calendar.
Coordinates various departmental and medical staff committee meetings.
Provides hospital personnel physician practices or office staff with needed reports and information and participates in the ongoing preparedness for TJC surveys.
Responsibilities Assimilates and inputs monthly and yearly on-line ER call schedule Assists in new provider orientation and proctoring requirements (FPPE) Assists in the ongoing evaluation (OPPE) of privileged providers Coordinates and supports Medical Staff Committees and Departmental meetings Coordinates cross-credentialing with other Centra facilities Identifies and completes one quality project annually Demonstrates knowledge of Joint Commission and CMS standards, federal and state regulations and all hospital and medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations and policies pertaining to credentialing, privileging and reappointment Maintains certification and continues to keep abreast of new rules, standards and issues Performs all the CVO duties for initial applications and re-credentialing Performs primary source verification of practitioner data for appointment.
Continually verifies current licensure DEA and appropriate professional liability insurance coverage Prepares memos reports and related correspondence as requested by the Director Medical Staff.
Respond to outside requests from other hospitals and payors credentialing Centra providers Prepares reports using MD Staff database regarding staff privileges Communicates the privileges to the appropriate staff Quality controls the MD-Staff database E-Priv Find-a-Physician and the MedTeam website Seeks new ways/methods to improve the management of credentialing and privileging and CVO functions Seeks opportunities to automate further the credentialing and privileging process Works collaboratively with the staff in processing credentialing applications and privileges in a timely manner Works to educate the office practice managers in the requirements of credentialing and privileging Works with staff to resolve issues courteously Qualifications Required Education: High School Diploma / GED Preferred Education: Bachelors Degree or graduate of an accredited Nursing Program Required Experience: Must be very detail-oriented, have strong computer skills, have strong written and verbal communication skills, and able to continuously work to meet deadlines Preferred Experience: Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology.
Knowledge of the Joint Commission and/or CMS standards for Medical Staff.
Required Certifications and Licensures: Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) within twelve (12) to eighteen (18) months of meeting eligibility requirements.
An employee must have three (3) years of experience in the field before they are eligible to apply for certification.
