*Position Summary*
Performs responsible skilled clerical work assisting with the operation of the Treasurer’s Office; does related work as required.
Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Treasurer.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
* Assists the public by receiving and processing payments for personal property and real estate taxes.
* Answers calls from citizens; answers questions; provides information and handles problems.
* Counts and verifies cash and checks; balances cash drawer; verifies bank statements.
* Processes dog licenses.
* Collects miscellaneous fees such as DMV stop fees, returned check fees and land use fees.
* Researches returned mail, notes and accounts; forwards to corrected address.
* Performs general office tasks; receives and processes incoming and outgoing mail.
* Assists with bookkeeping as required.
* Prepares word documents and Excel spreadsheets.
* Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested by the Treasurer.
* Participates in employee meetings and training as needed.
* Performs special projects as assigned.
* Meets attendance requirements and maintains the highest level of dependability.
* Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, and reprioritizes work as necessary.
*Qualifications*
Education / Experience:
Associates degree in Accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and minimum of two years experience in accounting and customer service sufficient to demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Other professional experience and training may be considered.
General knowledge of the principles underlying the laws, ordinances and regulations governing the operations of the Treasurer’s Office; general knowledge of the principles, methods and practices of accounting, and business and office practices; ability to analyze and interpret fiscal and accounting data and to prepare appropriate statements and reports; ability to operate standard office equipment, word processing, and computer entry; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Any employee designated as a Deputy by their Treasurer; must be duly sworn by the Clerk of the Circuit Court of the locality.
