The Controller will be responsible for ensuring that the organization’s accounting system complies with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and legislative requirements, and that the organization has sound internal control practices.
*Supervisory Responsibilities:*
· Oversees the operations of the Business Office, which include the accountant, accounts payable/account receivable, and student billing coordinator.
· Oversees training programs and identifies training needs for all employees.
*Duties/Responsibilities:*
· Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
· Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to the CFO.
· Prepare financial statements as requested to include balance sheets and income statements as requested.
· Prepare financial packages for the Board of Trustees.
· Compare and analyze actual to budgeted expenses on a monthly basis.
· Work with Development Office to ensure proper booking of Pledges Receivable and Contributions Received.
· Reconcile general ledger accounts, accounts receivable and accounts payable.
· Maintain or oversee all records and documentation for all transaction accounting, ensuring that all documents are secured.
· Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
· Develop quarterly and annual goals for the dept: monitor and report progress.
· Maintains Fundriver software for investments, and endowments.
· Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
*Education and Experience:*
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business Administration required.
· Ten years or more related experience.
· Experience with Nonprofit organization and fund accounting preferred.
· Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
*Physical Requirements:*
· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
