The University of Lynchburg, a private regional university, located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia is seeking a part-time Administrative Assistant for the Beard Center on Aging.
The Administrative Assistant reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Director of the Beard Center on Aging.
The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and carried out by the Center Director, which will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.
Job Type: Part-time
Job Purpose: Performs general administrative support, staff supervision, office coverage and assistance with special events for the Beard Center on Aging.
Specific Job Duties:
Perform administrative duties for the Beard Center including, but not limited to, typing, filing, telephone calls, correspondence, copying, maintaining office supplies, and general oversight of office
Assist with annual conferences, workshops, special events, and other programs offered by the Center, including processing registrations, maintaining event databases, and helping with arrangements both before and during events
Assist with the supervision of work-study students, community volunteers, student community-service volunteers and interns
Manage several Center mailing lists and databases
Perform other related duties as may be required

Benefits: Part-time (Non-Benefits Eligible)
Part-time staff are eligible for vacation on a pro-rata basis.
Schedule:
15 hours per week, between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday
Experience/Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively and to understand, comprehend and follow directions
Excellent oral and written skills for effective communication via phone, internally and with the public
Good mathematical skills necessary for preparation of reports and other assigned projects
Must have good teamwork and supervisory skills
Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Must be a self-starter, detail oriented, organized and able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Physical Demands:
Prolonged standing/setting/wrist movement
May involve some amount of time walking, lifting, standing, and bending
Must be able to carry items up to 10 pounds
Education:
High school degree and computer skills training.
