Duties As an Administrative Assistant, you will perform clerical and administrative duties in an assigned nuclear/fuels office.
You will type correspondence, memoranda, and reports in final form.
You will maintains files; place and receive phone calls for professional personnel; refer calls to appropriate staff; and receive and distribute mail.
NOTE: This is a permanent, part-time (10 hrs/wk) administrative support position in a 2-person inspection office located at a fuel facility.
Benefits, such as group-rate health and life insurance, retirement, tax-deferred savings plan, and paid vacation and sick leave are offered.
HOWEVER, AS THE ONLY ADMINISTRATIVE NRC POSITION AT THE SITE, THIS POSITION IS BEST SUITED TO QUALIFIED PERSONS WITH A SPECIFIC DESIRE FOR A LIMITED SCHEDULE, PART-TIME WORK ON A PERMANENT BASIS.
THE HOURS FOR THIS POSITION (10 HOURS SPREAD OVER 2 WORK DAYS WEEKLY) ARE NOT ANTICIPATED TO BE INCREASED.

Citizenship Required This is a Drug Testing position.
Background investigation leading to a clearance is required for new hires.
You must meet the qualifications for this position by no later than 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
Selectees are required to serve a trial period to assess their overall fitness and qualifications for continued employment.
The trial period for new employees is two years.
New employees who are preference eligible veterans serve a one-year trial period.
Qualifications In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
FOR GG-06: Candidates must have at least one year of experience at the GG-05 level or equivalent.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for this position you must possess the skill in operating computer equipment sufficient to prepare correspondence, memoranda, and reports in final form.
You should have familiarity with or ability to learn word processing equipment.
You should have knowledge of format and clerical procedures to arrange a variety of materials from different sources in an organized, workable manner.
You must also have ability to organize flow of clerical work, to maintain and organize an adequate filing system in order to locate and assemble material for reports and meetings.
Your grade level eligibility will be dependent upon progressively responsible experience.
The ideal candidate for this position should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities: (1) Demonstrated proficiency with microcomputer-based word processing systems (including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Appointment Calendars, E-mail, etc.
) (2) Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, sufficient to prepare and review outgoing professional reports and correspondence for correctness, proper format and completeness.
(3) Demonstrated initiative and ability to provide administrative support and coordination in a variety of areas (time and attendance reporting, security, records management, travel scheduling, etc.
) (4) Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing and ability to deal tactfully, efficiently, and professionally with all levels of personnel.
(5) Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in handling multiple assignments with competing priorities, often under considerable pressure to meet deadlines.
