Description
The Lynchburg Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, caring and dedicated recreation aide.
This position is responsible for onsite support and assistance at youth, teen, and family recreation programs at the Miller Center.
Program area focus is specialty camps but may include but are not limited to: dance, culinary, enrichment, health, wellness, arts, and nature.
The Miller Center is the largest center with Lynchburg Parks and Recreation, making it a busy hub for activities and programs.
The Center houses the administrative offices for the department, the Nature Zone, theatre, dance studio, and classrooms.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Work is performed under the supervision for the Miller Center Community Recreation Programmer.
Provides onsite support and assistance for programs focused on the youth, teen, and family populations.
Program areas include but are not limited to: specialty camps but may include but are not limited to: dance, culinary, enrichment, health, wellness, arts, and nature.
Provides exceptional customer service to all internal department and City staff and external customers including instructors.
Shows strong communication by greeting participants, addressing concerns, and answering phone calls and emails in a timely fashion.
Coordinates and completes setup and clean up for activities and programs.
Operates specialized computer registration software such as Rec Pro.
Handles monetary transactions for registrations and completes budget and expense reports when necessary in a timely manner.
Tracks class and program attendance.
Enforces department policies and program rules.
Supervises participant safety and discipline; resolves conflicts as appropriate.
Administers routine First Aid and CPR as needed.
Inspects facilities and equipment, reporting safety concerns.
Conducts supply inventory as needed and maintains organized storage.
Maintains a clean program and work environment by performing general custodial tasks as needed such as sweeping, picking up trash, occasional mopping, wiping tables and high traffic surfaces, cleaning tools, washing dishes, etc.
Provides support for department special events as position allows that include but are not limited to: event prep, on-site event set-up, on-site event management, etc.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee volunteers and instructors as needed with assigning and directing work.
This position is expected to resolve conflict and complaints as appropriate.
Minimum Education and Experience Required
A High School Diploma/GED
Additional Requirements
Valid Virginia’s Driver’s License and acceptable driving record according to City criteria.
CPR/First-Aid Certification required within 6 months of date of hire.
Must have flexible schedule and be available to work evenings and weekends.
Complete satisfactory background checks on the following: criminal record, Child Protective Services, Sexual Offense Register, driving record and employment reference checks.
May be subject to drug test.
