Summer Camp Counselors will ensure the health, safety, and well being of school age children ages 5 to 12 in our program by providing close supervision of all activities.
The counselor must maintain visual and auditory supervision at all times.
He/She will supervise, participate in and administer recreational activities for children.
He/She will provide a safe and fun environment for participants in the After School program by planning activities and events that are exciting, challenging and values based.
Work cooperatively with professional staff, other counselors, and other departments.
Have a positive attitude and follows directions.
She/He will monitor attendance and sign in/out procedures in accordance with YMCA policy.
He/She will be required to perform general housekeeping tasks and maintain clean and safe area and well as equipment, supplies, etc.
Counselors will assist children with homework and guide students in their academic growth.
She/He will communicate with families, about their children’s strengths and areas needing attention.
Counselors must actively participate in all training sessions, designated meetings and special events.
High School diploma; college credits in Education, Physical Education and/or Sociology desired.
Minimum of one year of relative experience working with children and/or planning age appropriate activities in a group setting.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to adjust from sitting to standing with ease.
Counselors are required to be a minimum of 16 years of age.
A TB test prior to beginning child care duties is required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are recommended.
He/She must maintain current CPR/First Aid/AED certifications, training will be provided.
and are required to know and follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
