The Lynchburg District has an exciting career opportunity for a collaborative leader serving as our District Structure & Bridge Engineer.
This position will lead the District Structure and Bridge Section by empowering & supporting staff to continue to safely accomplish performance goals through programs, credible schedules and budgets for the design, inspection, construction, and maintenance of approximately 2,000 bridges and structures throughout the 5,380 square miles and approximately 17,000 lane miles of VDOT’s Lynchburg District.
Provide solution-oriented leadership & management as well as direction for assigned District engineering section and associated consultants to work collaboratively with all other district sections, residencies, VDOT central office, local partners, contractors, and key stakeholders.
Plan, organize and monitor program & project activities.
Provide fiscal management and technical guidance on a wide variety of transportation projects while investing in such a manner as to continue our strong track record of meeting or exceeding statewide goals for asset condition assessment.
Invest in, train, and develop team members.
Provide oversight to structure inspection and repairs associated with storm recovery during emergency events, as needed.
This position is eligible for VDOT's Employee Referral Bonus Program.

• Advanced knowledge of transportation and highway engineering principles, laws and regulations.
• Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering design and analysis software.
• Skill in working with all levels of management and elected and appointed officials.
• Skill in managing the delivery of exemplary customer service by self and others.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences to include making technical presentations and conducting public meetings.
• Ability to research and analyze data and prepare and present technical reports.
• Knowledge of transportation project management and transportation project engineering.

Minimum Qualifications Experience managing staff, programs contract management and budgets.

Progressively responsible experience related to project scheduling and project management.

Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field desired.
Valid Professional Engineers (PE) license required.
