The ESL specialist reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the director of Wilmer Writing Center.
The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the director of Wilmer Writing Center.
It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior.
Job Type: PT (Non-Benefits Eligible)
Job Purpose: The ESL/L2 specialist will be responsible for providing writing tutoring to students who speak, read, and write English as an additional language.
The ESL specialist will work ten to fifteen hours per week (to be determined by the Director of the Wilmer Writing Center) during the fall and spring semesters.
Specific Job Duties:
Be present in the Wilmer Writing Center for all shifts.
Provide in-person and online (both synchronous and asynchronous) tutoring to L2 English learners who are undergraduate, graduate, or advanced-graduate students.
File client report forms through WCONLINE.
Maintain their virtual appointment schedule.
Participate in a self-reflective narrative (job performance) once a semester and/or other required HR evaluation paperwork
Other duties as assigned by the director of the Wilmer Writing Center, which could include but are not limited to speaking with tutors and/or faculty about best practices for working with ESL/L2 students, creating or collecting effective ESL-support materials for tutors and/or tutees to use, tutoring L1 students who are demonstrating severe deficiencies in writing.
Superb English language skills (Standard American English/Edited American English)
Ability to explain Standard American English/Edited American English to ESL/L2 students using accepted and best practices
Ability to execute client report forms
