Job Description: The Assistant Coach serves as a shared assistant coach for the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field teams, working primarily with the distance athletes during the track seasons.
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position reporting to the Head Cross Country Coaches.
The Assistant Coach demonstrates commitment to the Washington & Lee University philosophy by emphasizing academic priorities for student-athletes as well as the importance of good citizenship in and out of competition.

Essential Functions: Support the planning, coordination, and supervision of student athlete practice sessions for men’s and women’s distance runners during the cross country, indoor, and outdoor track and field seasons.
Help in planning team travel logistics, which could include lodging, transportation, and meal arrangements in accordance with budgetary parameters for the cross country and track & field programs.
Coach team members individually and in groups.
Develop and recommend competition strategies.
Teach 2-3 Physical Education courses annually as required for student graduation criteria.
Substitute teach as needed when requested by Head Coach or Director of Physical Education.
Assist in all phases of recruiting quality prospective student-athletes.
Serve as a meet coordinator for the Washington & Lee University Track & Field Carnival.
Communicates effectively with head-coaches, administration, and peers about program goals, status, and needs.
Complies with all University, ODAC Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Other duties as assigned by the head coaching staff.
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent and relevant competing or coaching experience is required.
Experience with distance events is preferred.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
