The City of Lynchburg is an Equal Opportunity EmployerThe Curator of Collections and Exhibitions (CCE) is responsible for providing primary curatorial support for the Museum Director, Lynchburg Museum System (“LMS”), Lynchburg Museum Foundation (“Foundation”), and Lynchburg Office of Economic Development and Tourism (“OEDT”).
The CCE supports other museum staff members and volunteers to ensure effective and efficient daily operation of the Lynchburg Museum at the Old Court House and Point of Honor.
The CCE is an employee of the City of Lynchburg (“City”) and reports directly to the Museum Director.

Collections ManagementPerform registration (recordkeeping), research, and care/handling work to maintain complete, accurate, and up-to-date records and to ensure the physical welfare of the LMS object and archival collectionsManage the digital collections database to ensure accuracy, completeness, and public accessOversee collections storage areas and maintain them in good orderWork collaboratively with other LMS staff, board, and community stakeholders to determine the suitability and feasibility of incoming accession materials in keeping with the LMS missionMake retention recommendations concerning material objects and archival documentsExhibitions ManagementOversee exhibition galleries and other display spaces (e.
g.
, Point of Honor, City Hall) and maintain them in good orderWork collaboratively with other LMS staff, board, and community stakeholders to develop and facilitate exhibitions, including short-term displays and long-term installationsWrite exhibition copy, labels, scripts, articles, blogs, and other texts related to LMS collectionsMaintain records pertinent to exhibitions (e.

When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position may supervise one other staff member, as well as volunteers and interns.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSSuccessful completion of IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment.
May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
