Job Description Overview Engages in teaching activities according to expertise in the classroom, skills laboratory and/or clinical setting.
Plans, implements and evaluates academic curriculum and assigned teaching as per relevant accreditation body, includes standards of practice and evidence-based instruction.
Serves as an academic advisor for an assigned student load.
Participates in scholarly activities to include the discovery, integration, and application of knowledge.
Serves and participates as part of the nursing profession, College, and local communities.
Responsibilities Teaching Maintains a teaching load as specified in the workload policy Shows enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and nursing that inspires and motivates students Implements a variety of teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs Utilizes technology appropriately in classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical to enhance the teaching-learning environment Identifies individual learning styles and unique learning needs of the students Participates in course evaluation and academic course enhancement on a regular basis Uses assessment, evaluation, and evidence-based data to enhance the teaching-learning process and course development Submits accurate student records to the Academic Director or designee upon completion of course(s) Maintains current course content in keeping with current trends, research findings and current knowledge base Implements a variety of teaching strategies appropriate to learner needs and desired learner outcomes, content, and content Creates opportunities for learners to develop their critical thinking and critical reasoning skills Addresses multicultural, gender, and experimental influences on teaching and learning Provides timely, constructive, and thoughtful feedback to learners Participates in curriculum review and development Maintains licensure and certification appropriate to professional field and/or academic discipline and maintains professional competence through appropriate activities such as clinical practice, attending conferences, workshops, seminars, classes and membership in professional organizations Advising Engages in effective advising strategies that assist learners to meet their professional goals Serves as a mentor/advisor for assigned students Maintains appropriate and current documentation in the students advising files Posts and maintains office hours and is regularly available to meet with students Consistently answers e-mails and/or returns phone calls within an appropriate amount of time Ensures customers’ and coworker’s right to privacy/modesty by maintaining a secure and trusting environment Ensures that stakeholders are kept informed as appropriate Scholarship Draws on existing literature to design evidence-based teaching and evaluation practices Assists in design and implementation of scholarly activity in an established area of interest Disseminate nursing and teaching knowledge to faculty at Centra Collge through various means Assists in proposal writing for initiatives that include, but not limited to, research, program development, curriculum revisions, and/or policy development Actively participates in professional development Engages in scholarly behaviors Service Participates in assigned committees with at least 80% attendance Attends required college functions such as, but not limited to, pinning, graduation, and faculty education days Maintain active membership in a local, state, or national organization or committee Regularly attend college faculty development programs and activities Assists in recruitment activities upon request Actions consistently demonstrates support of the college goals Works cooperatively to accomplish goals Positively contributes to college scorecard metrics Positively contributes to achievement of the college’s accreditation standards and criteria Follows through on commitments and requests in a timely, effective manner Shows respect and courtesy for the needs, work, and skills of others as professionals Supports a strong team model by working towards solutions, involving others in resolutions, and celebrating successes Meets all required continuing education requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Champion Centra’s and Centra College of Nursing mission, vision and values; comply with the policies and procedures, ethical standards and code of conduct set forth by the organization Qualifications Required: Master's degree in progress and completion within one year or earned master's in nursing (MSN) degree from a regionally accredited college/university Required Experience: Minimum of 3 years healthcare clinical experience.
Minimum of 2 years of healthcare teaching experience.
Preferred Experience: Specialty certification in clinical area of practice.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of educational principles and methodologies Proficient with common Microsoft applications Required Certification & Licensures: Hold a current, active license as a registered nurse in Virginia or hold a current multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse.
Hold a current, active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) course completion card.
Effective April 1, 2024, candidates seeking employment in this role at Centra must possess a valid and current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS Provider or AHA BLS Instructor) course completion card.
Proof of certification will be mandatory prior to commencing employment.
Both AHA and RQI cards are acceptable forms of certification.
