com *Position Summary * The Lead Teacher is responsible for implementing the activities and services offered to children within the preschool.
He/she is also responsible for leading, coaching, and mentoring both Assistant Teachers and less experienced teachers whom also work directly with children in their respective classroom.
Modeling a behavior of excellence and providing feedback is an expectation of our Lead Teachers.
Teachable Moments expects the Lead Teacher and all other staff members: * To show a commitment to TMP’s mission and to adhere to all of the adopted policies and procedures * To interact with preschool families, staff members, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner * To perform assigned tasks in an efficient manner * To be punctual * To demonstrate a considerate, friendly and constructive attitude toward preschool children, families, staff members, and all other visitors *Responsibilities *(include, but are not limited to) * Instructing a class of children in a manner consistent with the philosophy and the goals of the preschool, which include: * Treating each child with dignity and respect * Planning activities, which will encourage each child’s growth in the areas of emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development * Recognizing and considering the individual needs of each child in relation to culture and socio-economy background, disabilities, special talents and interests, style, and pace of learning * Helping children learn to think creatively, to solve problems independently, and to respect themselves and others * Being responsible for the arrangement, decor, and learning environment in the classroom, keeping in mind that work done by the children should take precedence over decorations made by staff * Assist both the Preschool Director and Assistant Director in leading teaching staff, supporting families, and achieving enrollment, accreditation, and operational objectives * Plan and implement classroom special events including field trips, and participate when needed * Reporting to the Assistant Director any equipment repairs or replacements needed, maintenance needed in the classroom or the playground, and supplies that need to be reordered * Perform daily tasks relating to the efficient operation of the preschool; serve as a “greeter” for the children and families * Planning and carrying out conferences with the parents of the children in the class.
Keeping records on the development of the child * Promoting a good rapport among staff members * Assist the preschool leadership in maintaining security of all preschool confidential information * Cultivate positive relationships with children, families, preschool staff, local/state regulatory partners, and community partners * Maintain knowledge of CPR and First-aid * Serve as a leader and model to the staff regarding professional conduct, including confidentiality, best practice, and quality service to children and families * Attend professional development seminars and/or conferences to remain current on developments of the whole child and the growing industry * Actively sharing the knowledge and skills received from professional development trainings with other staff members in the preschool either during a monthly workshop, preschool newsletter article, and/or during monthly staff meetings * Complete other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director that relate to the above job description *Qualifications* * Minimum of 18 years of age, have fulfilled a high school program completion or the equivalent and shall meet *one* of the following: 1.
Have one of the Preschool Director qualifications;2.
Have a bachelor’s degree in a child-related field such as, but not limited to, elementary education, nursing, or recreation, from a college or university;3.
Have three months of programmatic experience and at least one of the following education backgrounds: a.
A one year early childhood certificate from a college or university that consists of at least 30 semester hours; b.
A child development credential c.
A teaching diploma form an internationally or nationally recognized Montessori organization; or4.
Have six months of supervised programmatic experience.
Within six months before being promoted or beginning work or one month after being promoted or beginning work, a minimum of 24 hours of training shall be received related to the care of children, including but not limited to: a.
Child development; b.
Playground safety; c.
Health and safety issues; and d.
Preventing and reporting child abuse and neglect * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills * Must be a self-starter with the ability to follow-through on tasks * Experience with general technology and computer equipment * Passion for children and a strong desire to make a difference daily * CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain * Medication Administration certification or willingness to obtain * Must meet state specific guidelines for the role * Must be physically able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and work indoors or outdoors.
Must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children * Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check *Classification * Full-Time *Time and Term Commitment * The Lead Teacher shall be employed for all twelve months of the year.
During the year, the general time frame the preschool will be operating will be 6:00am to 6:00pm.
The Lead Teacher work time frame is subject to adjustment depending upon the demands of the job, the desired hours of the Lead Teacher, and at the discretion of the Preschool Director.
