The successful Optical Department Manager will fulfill Atlantic Vision Partner’s mission statement by possessing exemplary leadership skills, superior patient/customer service skills, and in-depth knowledge of the optical business.
The manager will understand insurance reimbursement/contracting and vendor negotiations.
The Optical Department Regional Manager is ultimately responsible for quality control, patient satisfaction, and retention of the patients.
Major Responsibilities:
In addition to the Optician-Sales Associate job description:
Completely familiar with all aspects of each job description in the department.
Supervises the department staff, coaches, and disciplines as necessary.
Planning and directing the hiring and training of new Optical staff.
Leadership, motivation, and goal setting for staff.
Collaborating with team leaders to conduct monthly/yearly coaching reviews.
Maintains efficiency of the department.
Inventory management.
Advising optical staff on policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Train and execute Standard Operating Procedures.
Oversees all purchasing activities.
Vendor relations, including pricing negotiations and troubleshooting quality and delivery problems.
Works in conjunction with the marketing coordinator on marketing activities for the department.
Troubleshoots and solves problems in the department in a timely manner.
Tracking and analyzing sales statistics based on key performance indicators.
Assessing and analyzing department budgets to minimize expenses and optimize profits.
Identifying potential problems and points of friction and working to find solutions to maximize efficiency and revenue.
Identifying opportunities to expand or shift courses to take advantage of changes in the market.
Setting discount rates and determining price schedules.
Produce and analyze monthly reports including but not limited to:
Business Analysis, including revenue, capture rates, and other Optical Key Performance Indicators.
Remake Report
Refund Report
Discount Summary Report
Medicare Complaint Log Report
Preparing sales budgets and projections and approving expenditures.
Responsible for keeping the optical department’s point of sale system up to date with correct product and pricing.
Keeping the optical Policy and Procedure Manual current and distributed correctly.

Education/Certifications/Experience:
Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent.
Previous optical background and supervisory and management experience are required.
State Optician Licensure is required.
Physical Demands:
Ability to be on feet for long periods of time.
Ability to sit for prolonged periods with stooping and stretching.
Ability to lift to 25 pounds.
Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
Ability to raise hands and arms to shoulder level without restriction, pain, or discomfort.
Ability to perform extended use of phones and computer keyboarding, photocopiers, facsimile, lensometers, etc.
