Job Description
Overview
The Unit Manager maintains 24-hour accountability for the Unit.
In this role, the Unit Manager plans, organizes, schedules, monitors and leads the work of individuals and groups to attain desired results.
This position selects and develops staff to promote a healthy work environment.
The Unit Manager facilitates Centra's strategic plan, maintains quality and safe patient care, promotes a service-oriented environment, and functions within budgetary guidelines.
The Unit Manager integrates the tenets of the Professional Practice Model in the operations of the Unit.
The Unit Managers practice reflects the American Nurses Associations (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses, the ANA Scope and Standards for Nurse Administrators, and the Nurse Practice Act of Virginia.
P&BH: Reports to SENIOR DIRECTOR PSYCHIATRY & NURSING OPERATIONS
Responsibilities
Ensures active engagement in own professional development and that of direct reports as evidenced by attainment of degrees, certifications, and continuing education
Develops and implements unit based succession plans
Manages employee performance which includes: regular evaluations, mediating disputes, and administering progressive discipline
Collaborates with direct reports to create, operationalize, and monitor action plans that drive Centra's goals and True North metrics at the unit level.
Utilizes unit manager competencies as a framework to develop new learning opportunities and leadership skills
Partners with HR on complex issues such as LOA's Recruitment, Work Comp, Engagement, Progressive Discipline, etc.
Applies Lean processes to unit based initiatives
Utilizes research and evidence based practices for self and unit development
Follows up on risk management, patient, employee, and regulatory concerns within specified time frames.
Operates unit within productivity and budget targets
Ensures schedules meet core staffing needs or develops action plan so address deficiencies
May perform other duties as assigned or requested and job specification can be modified or updated at any time.
Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelors or Masters in nursing.
If Masters is in nursing, Bachelors may be in any field.
Required Experience: 1 year experience in nursing or related healthcare field.
Preferred Experience: Leadership experience preferred.
Required Certification & Licensures: Hold a current, active license as a registered nurse in Virginia or hold a current multistate licensure privilege as a registered nurse.
Hold a current, active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) course completion card.
Preferred Certification & Licensures: Certification in specialty or nursing leadership.
