Bedford, VA 24523 Hours: 10:30pm - 7:00am Position Summary Supervises, coordinates, and provides professional nursing care through the monitoring of residents; providing treatments and medications; assessing resident conditions and reporting accordingly.
Works collaboratively with physicians and other health care alliances to ensure optimal resident health and well-being.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervises, coordinates and directs the work of an assigned shift and provides advanced professional guidance and direction to nursing staff engaged in providing nursing care to residents in compliance with physicians’ orders and established health care practices.
Consults with nursing personnel on shift situations.
Monitors critical residents and nursing operations to provide resolutions or specialized nursing care.
Frequently makes routine and unannounced visits to each living area to assess adherence to policies and procedures.
Responds to emergency situations and provides direction and support as needed.
Administers IVs and obtains blood samples as necessary.
Maintains liaison between living areas and the various nursing ancillary service departments to ensure coordination of effort for optimal resident care.
Prepares reports reflecting incidents, trends, appropriate statistical data, and audits.
Provides guidance and counseling in the resolution of problems.
Participates in resident and family counseling.
Practices and enforces safety regulations to ensure a safe environment.
Serves on committees as assigned.
Supervises a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to: performance appraisals and counseling/disciplinary action.
Participates in staff training and orientation.
Attends professional workshops/seminars as assigned.
Assists staffing coordinator with preparation of shift schedules; supports the staffing coordinator to ensure adequate personnel to meet resident needs.
May function in the dual capacity of Supervisor and Community Nurse.
May function in the dual capacity of Supervisor and Quality Improvement & Continuing Education Director.
Procures supplies form support services.
Creates and maintains a positive atmosphere of warmth and personal interest.
Upholds nursing policies and procedures; periodically reviews polices & procedures and makes recommendations for for revisions.
Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested by management.
Participates in employee meetings as needed.
Performs special projects as assigned.
Meets attendance requirements and maintains the highest level of dependability.
Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, and reprioritizes work as necessary.
Qualifications Education / Experience Graduate of a recognized School of Professional Nursing.
1-2 years’ experience medical surgical and/or long term care nursing.
Supervisory experience.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Knowledge of the principles, standards, practices and techniques of professional nursing.
Preferred long term care experience of 1-2 years.
Certifications / Licenses Licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia IV therapy skills Basic nursing equipment Supervision Exercised: Licensed Practical Nurses Certified Nursing Assistants Other Registered Nurses working as Community Nurses Physical Requirements The physical requirements describe here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
