Job Description
Overview
The Radiology Technologist for Centra Southside Community Hospital takes x-rays to assist with a patient's diagnosis.
This position performs diagnostic radiographic procedures and related techniques, monitors patient safety and comfort, and produces quality images for interpretation.
This position works with a high volume of inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Department (ED) patients.
This is an entry level position in the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
Responsibilities
Produces quality x-ray images
Uses radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff
Reviews and evaluates images to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes
Positions imaging equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination
Calculates exposure factors utilizing posted exposure charts/preprogrammed units
Explains procedures and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan
Takes accurate patient medical histories
Operates or oversees operation of radiologic equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes
Positions patient on examining table
Records, processes, and maintains patient data or treatment records
Evaluates images on the Remote Operating Panel (ROP) unit or on the Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) for technical quality; Completes image evaluation/annotation by using appropriate Right or Left identification markers on image, and by Identifying position on films with annotation of lead markers (Supine, Upright, Semi- upright, AP, PA, etc.
)
Maintains patient records by inputting patient examination information into the Radiology Information System (RIS) and documenting changes made to examination
Maintains and stocks supplied in assigned work area
Cleans work area and equipment, including x-ray table, following each patient
Coordinates supply needs and product order requests with Radiology Assistant
Participates in Performance Improvement program by documenting required data on Performance Improvement monitors in place
Provides care appropriate to the age, spiritual, and cultural needs of the patient served
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Education: Completed two- (2) year degree or certification program in Radiologic Technology
Preferred Experience: Hospital experience
Required Certifications and Licensures: Registry eligible or certified as a Radiology Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Must be certified as a Radiology Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within the first thirty (30) days of hire.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
