Job Description
Summary/Objective
The director of the Annual Fund is responsible for the overall management and ongoing development of a multifaceted annual giving program to raise and increase unrestricted giving and participation from alumni, parents, and friends of the College.
The director will maintain a portfolio of approximately 200 prospects and donors to secure gifts annually.
The annual giving program includes direct mail solicitations, face-to-face visits, student and alumni calling and digital outreach, Facebook and Instagram pages, email/digital communications, a class agent program, a Reunion giving program, and Give Day.
Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
Maintain a portfolio of approximately 200 Annual Fund prospects and donors.
Visit with individual prospectsin-person and/or via virtual meeting based on geographic locationprioritizing Reunion and LYBUNTs to cultivate relationships and solicit leadership gifts to the Annual Fund.
The Director of the Annual Fund should make a minimum of 60 visits annually.
Lead the planning process that shapes strategies and action steps for the effective use of direct mail, phone/digital outreach, personal solicitations, volunteers, and staff in reaching dollar goals and achieving projected percentages of alumni participation.
Lead the effort for the College’s annual Give Day campaign in the fall, including leading the institutional advancement staff committee that spearheads campus Give Day events, formulating a multichannel communications plan leading up to and throughout the day, and creating a stewardship plan to retain Give Day donors in future fiscal years.
Work closely with other members of the development professional staff to identify and solicit major annual giving prospects and continue to feed the major gifts pipeline by effectively moving Annual Fund donors up the gift level pyramid.
Manage leadership and loyalty gift clubs in partnership with donor relations coordinator (i.
e.
, Conway, Young Conway, and Ivy Society).
Manage and oversee the class agent and Reunion giving programs, and personally manage 1-2 Reunion committees each year.
Act as a liaison with the alumni office and assist with major alumni events such as Homecoming and Reunion.
Continually analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the annual giving program through the creation and use of RE NXT and database reports and queries, and pivot strategy as needed to ensure that annual goals are met.
Research, recommend, and implement new strategies as needed to maximize the effectiveness of the annual giving program.
Formulate and effectively manage an annual budget to ensure maximum ROI.
Lead the Annual Fund team in implementing strategies toward achieving individual and team goals as well as overall Annual Fund dollar and participation goals.
Competencies A demonstrated ability to speak and write persuasively, strong editing skills, and the ability to articulate the mission of the College.
Manage Give Day crowdfunding platform and use various technologies, such as an email marketing platform, ringless voicemail, virtual meeting software (Google Meet/Zoom), database, desktop design/publishing tool, and the Microsoft suite of applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) as well as Google Drive/Docs/Sheets.
Raiser’s Edge knowledge is a plus.
Strong organizational and analytical skills, ability to work under pressure, and high level of attention to detail.
Must be highly motivated and possess a high energy level.
Must have the ability to both lead a team and be a member of one.
Supervisory Responsibilities Supervises the assistant director of the Annual Fund, who in turn supervises the alumni engagement coordinator.
Work Environment The position typically works in an office environment with some monthly travel.
Must be available to work occasional weekends and evenings, and must prioritize work/office presence during critical giving times (e.
g.
calendar and fiscal year-end, Give Day, Reunion).
Physical Demands Requires standing/walking/sitting for extended periods of time.
May occasionally lift 10/15 lbs.
Travel Required Local and regional travel (mostly within 3-4 hours driving distance) to conduct visits with donors and alumni.
Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree A track record that shows the ability to plan and implement strategy, and establish and achieve goals.
Preferred education and experience Minimum of three years of experience in a complex fundraising organization or higher education institution with a demonstrated track record of annual fund program design and implementation, personal solicitation, and creative and assertive management of volunteers.
