Are you a seasoned fundraising professional with a passion for cultivating relationships and securing major gifts? The VMI Alumni Agencies is seeking an accomplished Major Gift Officer to strategically manage a portfolio of prospects, formulate gift strategies, and play a vital role in advancing the mission of Virginia Military Institute.
*Position Summary:* The Major Gift Officer will proactively manage a robust portfolio and formulate gift strategies and plans for their prospects.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this role works closely with the CDO to match a perspective donor’s inspiration with a critical need of the Institute.
Following an onsite and thorough training, this Major Gift Officer will have the ability to work remotely.
Travel as appropriate to build a successful portfolio.
*Duties and Responsibilities Include* managing your portfolio of current and potential donors to cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts.
You are expected to develop and maintain strong relationships with donors and prospects.
*Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:* * Preferred minimum of 3 years of fundraising experience, including major gift fundraising.
* Adherence to the highest ethical standards.
* Excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
* Superior writing and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
* Highly self-motivated.
* Competent in computer software programs and software applications.
* Knowledge and experience with Blackbaud’s software is a preferred.
