Title: Parks Maintenance Coordinator
Department: Parks and Recreation
Reports To: Director of Parks and Recreation
Location: 1257 County Farm Rd.
Bedford, VA 24523
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm, weekends as needed
Position Summary
Performs difficult technical work overseeing the maintenance of Parks and Grounds areas, facilities, and equipment; does related work as required.
Work is performed under general supervision.
Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Plans, organizes, directs and inspects for the work crews engaged in the regular maintenance of parks and grounds area, facilities and equipment.
Inspects areas and facilities for conformance to maintenance and safety standards.
Advises Director of important matters relative to division activities.
Supervises the work of grounds crews and trains new employees.
Manages the maintenance and replacement of department vehicles and equipment.
Supervises the maintenance and repair of bleachers, picnic tables, field equipment, scoreboards, lightning, etc.
Recommends capital and operating budgets.
Purchases equipment, supplies and vehicles for department.
Establishes and oversees pesticide/herbicide spraying program.
Coordinates department’s safety program.
Prepares and maintains records and reports on division activities and equipment maintenance.
Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested by management.
Participates in employee meetings and training as needed.
Performs special projects as assigned.
Meets attendance requirements and maintains the highest level of dependability.
Consistently demonstrates ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs and reprioritizes work as necessary.
Qualifications
Education
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in horticulture or related field and considerable experience in construction and maintenance activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment, tools and materials used in park maintenance and construction; thorough knowledge of general building, equipment, repair and maintenance; thorough knowledge of landscaping and horticulture as applied to parks and grounds areas; thorough knowledge of hazards and necessary safety precautions involved in construction work; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates; ability to prepare reports; ability to prepare reports and maintain records; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
