Job Summary
To provide appropriate instruction in subject areas and skill development that will contribute to the students’ development as mature, able and responsible citizens.
Essential Duties
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at times designated.
Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom decorum.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals by establishing clear objectives for all lessons.
Provides the students with a variety of instructional techniques.
Strives to implement the school system’s philosophy and goals.
Assesses the accomplishment of the students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by administrative regulations and policy.
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
A valid Virginia teaching license in the area of teaching responsibility and successful student teaching or teaching experience is required.
Must be able to provide satisfactory references of teaching performance and have completed appropriate testing requirements.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board or Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
