Job Summary
To initiate and maintain an educational program which will offer the best results for a successful elementary school experience and to help students realize their own individual worth.
Essential Duties
Consults with classroom teachers, school principal, visiting teacher, school nurse, psychologist, and parents relative to students and their challenges.
Works closely with classroom teachers in planning and implementing group sessions based on the developmental needs of all students.
Demonstrates the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, parents, school personnel and members of the community.
Interprets objective test data for classroom teachers, parents, and students.
Acts as the liaison between school and community agencies in working with student challenges.
Counsels students with learning, physical, social, and emotional problems; counsels with referred students.
Provides planned occupational information programs to introduce the student to the world of work.
Assists in the identification of students with special needs.
Maintains accurate and up-to-date permanent record folders.
Acquaints teachers with psychological personnel and services available.
Coordinates the efforts of all specialists working on a case.
Provides for articulation about students and records between the sending school and the receiving school.
Undertakes in a cooperative endeavor, the continuous evaluation of:
The nature and scope of the guidance services as outlined above.
The functioning of guidance as an integral part of the total educational program.
The effectiveness of guidance eservices.
Performs such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
A postgraduate professional license with an endorsement as a guidance counselor is required.
Five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience, at least two (2) years of which shall have been at the elementary school level is preferred.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Board or Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
