POSITION SUMMARY
This position will be supervised by the Department of Student Services and will be responsible for assisting teachers to provide instructional and behavioral support to students.
The Restorative Academy is a program for students who need behavioral and/or mental health support in order to build skills that will allow them to be successful at their base school.
The instructional assistant will help the teacher to provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
This position will also work with contracted professionals to provide behavior support and intervention specific to behaviors that each individual student displays.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Demonstrates willingness to work with teachers to help students complete work assigned to them
Assists classroom teacher in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks to achieve and enhance instructional objectives.
Works with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning objectives introduced by teacher.
Provides programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by teacher.
Assists with large and small group activities.
Guides independent study and other work assigned by teacher.
Reports student problems to the teacher and assists with student problems.
Assists with loading and unloading buses.
Supervises students during unstructured time such as lunch, recess and transitions.
Assists with student routines.
Performs related work as required.
Assist in establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Help maintain order in the classroom; monitors students to keep them on task.
Provides opportunities for success for all students.
Maintains accurate records measuring student achievement.
Adheres to board and school policies.
Maintains professionalism during stressful situations.
Communicates with parents, students, staff, and community members in a professional manner.
Maintain confidentiality.
Accepts and fulfills additional responsibilities designated by the building administrator.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post-secondary institution or career technical facility, or an Associate’s Degree, or successful completion of the ParaPro assessment.
Prior experience working with children is preferred.
