POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title: Payroll Specialist
Reports To: Director of Finance
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
Summary: To ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Payroll Office with respect to all duties which may be assigned to the Payroll Specialist.
Works with limited supervision while providing accurate and systemic payroll services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
Processes payroll data for all school district employees and maintains accurate, up-to-date information in Linq for employee payroll information including leave.
Prepares, verifies, and distributes semi-monthly payroll.
Balances payroll and withholding accounts.
Prepares required governmental reports, retirement, IRS, W-2’s etc… and files them according to the prescribed deadlines.
Provides support in the preparation of and submission of payroll tax, monthly, quarterly, annually, federal and state forms and reporting to include preparation of appropriate journal entries to record tax deposits.
Works with representatives of government, and retirement agencies to provide information.
Processes mortgage verifications, final salary affidavits, short term and long-term disability and workmen’s compensation values.
Responsible for compliance with payroll laws and regulations.
Works with employees to explain and review discrepancies noted in payroll information.
Reviews payroll schedule and is proactive in approach to scheduling given holidays and changes in work schedule.
Requires knowledge of employment contracts governing employee groups and carrying out interpretations of such contracts.
Responsible for processing some Accounts Payable transactions and running checks.
Facilitates flexible spending accounts system and other payroll deduction benefit opportunities.
Other duties as assigned.

Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
