POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Executive Director of Youth Development & the Childcare Director, the Childcare Program Aide assists the site coordinator in the supervision and carrying out of the daily activities of the assigned childcare site, ensuring the program meets its intended goals as well as the Association’s goals.
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1.
Assists in supervising the children and all program activities.
2.
Follows all procedures and standards as established by State DSS Standards and the Y; makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.
3.
Nurtures children through purposeful programming; to include homework help & carries out holistic lesson plans that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes of achievement, relationships and belonging.
4.
Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth.
5.
Be ready to initiate activities, participate in activities and interact with children.
6.
Help record and maintain student information.
7.
Prepare and help with snacks.
8.
Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress; connects families to the Y.
9.
Punch in and out for required shifts and review timecard to verify accuracy.
10.
Responsible for assuring high standards of program quality, and safety in accordance with YMCA safety and risk management policies.
Know all emergency procedures.
11.
Arrive 10-15 minutes before shift starts and be prepared if closing; stay until the last child is gone.
12.
Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
13.
Performs other duties as assigned by site director & child care director.
LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES: • Collaboration: Creates sustainable relationships within the Y.
• Emotional Maturity: Demonstrates ability to understand and manage emotions effectively in all situations QUALIFICATIONS: • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law and/or the Y.
Minimum age of 18.
• One year of child care experience preferred.
• Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, First Aid, & AED.
• Must complete and pass numerous state required background checks, a TB test, drug test & fingerprinting.
(Must be in place prior to working with children) • Fulfillment of state-specific & DSS Licensing hiring standards and completion of YMCA program-specific training.
Must complete 24 hours of training to meet the licensing standards of a licensed child day center.
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
• Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
