GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Asphalt Paving Superintendent is responsible for the overall field operations with a safety first priority.
This includes the production of quality products, scheduling and supervision of field personnel, controlling costs and production metrics, maintaining equipment and directing crews, ensuring compliance with environmental and other permit requirements.
Provide supervision to field personnel.
A good understanding of state, local and private requirements and regulations.
Including VDOT highway paving regulations
DUTIES / RESPONSIBLILITIES:
Ensures the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with job.
Trains Asphalt Foremen and new crew members.
Calculates the number of trucks required to haul asphalt from the hot plant according to vehicle capacity, traffic conditions, distance from work site, and productivity of drivers.
Tours job sites to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules, to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment, ensure slope and material thickness to verify compliance with contracts, and to supervise the job.
Supervises and coordinates crew activities, studies production schedules, and estimates work requirements for completion of job assignment in compliance with or beating the job estimate.
Maintains time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing, prepares progress reports material used, cost and adjusts work schedule accordingly.
Maintains company policies.
Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and crew performance.
Will directly supervise multiple crews.

The ability to time your movements or the movement of a piece of equipment in anticipation of changes in the speed and/or direction of a moving object or scene.
The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED
Reliable Transportation
Minimum 3 years experience operating heavy equipment
Must have Jobsite skills and on the job training and/or education in engineering to possess the proper attributes of a skilled worker and team leader.
Must be able to physically climb and lift/carry 25 to 50 pounds.
Sit or drive approximately 60%; stand or walk approximately 40% of a 10 to 12 hour shift.
